About This Activity
Join us for the 1st Annual Run for HER 5K Run/Walk benefiting The Honor Empower Rebuild (HER) Foundation, INC.  We hope to raise awareness of the increasing number of homeless women veterans in Northwest Florida. HER is a professional foundation that is dedicated to our women veterans, who have served this country with dignity and honor.  Homeless veterans are not just men anymore, women account for 10% of the total homeless veteran population and increasing each year.

It has been documented that the number of homeless women veterans has more than tripled since 2006. The reason for homelessness can vary from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, Alienation from friends and family, mental and emotional illness or marginal people prior to joining the military. Women who have been physically injured are more likely to encounter PTSD than their male counterparts.  Women veterans have also experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST) assaults that occur at an average of more than 70 per day, that’s One in Four women veterans.  Those that are currently homeless and are survivors of MST will remain at risk of being homeless and being a victim of further abuse unless someone helps.

The HER Foundation is raising money so we can provide a transitional housing for our homeless women.  Our program provides lodging, meals, access to medical, dental, counseling, job placement, and other social services as needed.  HER will as identify and provide services to those who are homeless and in danger of becoming homeless.
